i’m not sure. i love to watch the races, but i hate it when the horses get hurt. they fall and basically they can’t be riden because of how bad it was. it seems like they don’t care for the horses.

I would absolutely not vote to ban horse racing. It is a living, breathing industry that helps keep the horse industry going. If horse racing were to be banned…..well, you think the horse economy is bad now….this would be a walk in the park compared to the consequences of stopping horse racing.
You have to understand all the aspects that keep the entire horse industry going and the broad reaching effects.
Closing the slaughter plants has made the bunny huggers happy, but they have no idea what the consequences of closing horse slaughter houses has done. The value of horses, even if they are our beloved pets, has bottomed out. this is also because the economy is terrible, too. And the war Bush is playing games in. The horse industry can’t take another wack.
These are very touchy subjects that no one wants to address and realize the consequences. Very sad.
People are bringing truck loads of horses to auctions and merely abandoning the horses on site. People are turning their horses loose in state parks, on the road sides, because they can’t afford to feed them and can’t find homes and there no place for these extra horses to go. It is a very sad reality.

No, can you imagine the number of horses that would have to be killed if horse racing was banned? Most race horses are cared for amazingly well, alright there’s the odd trainer who’s in it just for the money and not the sport but overall it’s a well respected sport that employs millions of people all over the world.

I don’t have a problem with racing, but I have a problem with the way race horses are kept. They do not get sufficient forage and hecne end up with gastric ulcers and they are started WAY too young, hence are usually knackered by 8yo. I’d ban the racing of horses under 4 years old, and I’d like to see a rule in place that the horse’s diet must be at least 50% roughage.
I have no idea about dog racing, so I can’t comment there.
ADD: I’d just like to add, my comments regarding the husbandry of race horses is not unfounded. I have many racing contacts, and have ridden out on several occasions to help them out. I trim up all the TBs on a yard near me because the stables jockeys are…well, a bit useless at that sort of thing. Just before anyone says that I’ve probably never seen a race yard etc etc.

no i wouldnt i love the races and race horses are cared for so well. when they are done racing they are usually sold for breeding or pets. either way…they are living well during and after their career. i would ban dog racing because they are kept in kennels during their racing career and put to sleep afterwards. they are not really good pets seeing as they have been kennel kept all their lives. they are timid, scared, and are not housebroken.many live an awful life and are tossed away after their racing years.

I would rather them put restrictions on it than to stop it all together. I am not against it and I like going to races with family and friends… but the way they treat and start out the horses is usually inhumane, and this is why I feel there needs to be restrictions.
I don’t know any thing about dog racing though

I would vote yes, or at least to put restrictions on it such as setting a minimum racing age to begin racing, making competitive surgery illegal, and setting precautions to avoid injury on the race track.
I hope this helps, if anybody has information on mine, I’d love the help!http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

    i don’t think i would.
Its not like the horses are being beaten
(they are but only with a whip big deal we all do it)
and if they did start beating them it would ruin there performance and they wouldn’t get the cash from races etc.
Honestly they live a pretty luxurious life if i say so my self.
    They get clean stables
    Access to water 24/7
    Feed (hard feed and hay)
    Open paddocks to run in
Exercise to keep fit (its not the best exercise but they are healthy)
and after they “retire” from racing they get trained to do dressage or jumping etc
they only thing i hate about racing is when some horses do retire they just get killed i hate it so much, so cruel they could sell them and get even MORE money, even as a paddock horse or a “company” horse if u cant ride it or train it to do more things.
And any way it wouldn’t work, racing is a billion dollar industry and if they took it away bank and the government would loose tonnes of money.
So honestly it aint that bad in the racing buisness lol

    i would vote………..
    well, honestly im not sure.
it seems like a good sport and employs millions of peeps.
(breeders jockeys ticket sellers vets ect.)
but horses are dying because of it
there are some places where they are bred to be light and have light bones.
then when they race (often) their legs break and they die.
even a normal horse has many ingeries.
    but im not suure….

  10. Abby K. says:

Currently? YES…If they’d up the age of the racing horses, then of course not. 2 is NOT the age horses should be racing at. Neither is three….4’s about the best I’d say….But right now,I would absolutely vote to ban it!

  11. Maurizia Cruz says:

ABSOLUTELY! Horse racing is getting way out of hand. I have experienced that first hand by owning an ex racehorse! Maybe the whole sport doesnt need to be banned but the breeding and drugging of these horses does… it ruins them and that isnt fair or humane!

  12. PRS says:

Not for an outright ban. I would like to ban racing for 2 and 3 year olds though. I don’t think a horse should be put through the physical stresses of racing soooo young. 4 years old is young enough.

  13. Anonymous says:

It is fun to watch but cruel to the horse so yes. I am on the fence but I have to lean on the side that conideres the horses health.

  14. Anonymous says:

No i wouldnt say ban it but at least make it a federal association instead of letting the states control the rules.

  15. Barefoot says:

Yes, absolutely. And it should not be just horses, all animal racing is wrong.

  16. veron says:

Yes. Below is one of the reasons why…

  17. Caring girl. says:

    No I would not vote.
